Summer
Warm days, cool
nights, dazzling vistas
Summertime brings all the mountain adventures you expect from this
part of North Carolina - whitewater rafting, hiking, horseback riding, tubing,
gem mining, craft fairs, bluegrass music, festivals, and county fairs. And
a welcome respite from summer heat! While your days can be spent playing
all over these hills, back here at Timberwolf Creek, the temperature has made
its lazy climb up toward 80 degrees, but never quite reaching it. Built as
we are under old-growth forest, and into the cool stone of the mountain, we also
live alongside nature's air conditioner: that creek! Springfed and a
constant 40 degrees, with a soft steady breeze, it is the perfect answer to
steamy summer days. And what a marvelous culmination of your fun-filled
summer day, to spend a lazy evening watching the sun set behind the hills - wow,
it got cool *fast* when the sun disappeared! Must be time for firelight
and marshmallows.
And here in these mountains, I was surprised to learn we live in a rain forest
(not a tropical rain forest, but a rain forest nonetheless). I've had more
fun learning about local flora and shade gardening and lilies - we have hundreds
of lilies! Summer means flowers, and every bloom vies for your attention -
come and see...
